After pricing plateaued in December the hazelnut market has been rising steadily since the turn of the year. Farmers are still bringing very little to the market and demand has pushed the price over 30TL per kilo for kernels.
Reports from Turkey suggest that farmers believe that if they continue to hold out then the market price could even reach as much 40TL for raw 11/13mm. Initial estimates of the 2015 hazel crop suggest that it will not be a very good crop again this year, although nowhere near as bad as the 2014 crop.
Coupled with current rates of supply to the market would suggest that high hazelnut pricing is going to continue for the foreseeable future.
