SDG 10: Childcare For All

  • Reading time:4 mins read

SDG 10, Reduced Inequalities, focuses on addressing disparities within and between countries. While progress had been made in income growth for the poorest 40% of populations, the COVID-19 pandemic has potentially reversed this trend and exacerbated inequalities. Discrimination remains a significant issue, particularly affecting women and people with disabilities, while the surge in refugees and migrant deaths underlines the urgency of global cooperation. Achieving SDG 10 involves equitable resource distribution, education investment, discrimination combat, and fostering fair trade and financial systems for a more equitable world.

The ambition behind all of our Shared Future projects is to encourage processors and farmers to focus on quality and sustainability, safe in the knowledge that their product will seek fair value in the market place. In addition to guaranteeing income for their crops, the premium on these goods is invested back into projects to improve the quality of life for these community members. Empowering them to invest in what they need, for both short term and long-term projects. Impacting areas such as: healthcare, child care, diversity of income, education and infrastructure.

Childcare is particularly important in areas with higher levels of seasonal migrant workers who travel with children, child labour can become a challenge. When schools are closed during harvesting seasons, these workers often compel their children to assist in the fields. By offering schooling, educational resources, and day-care for the children of workers and farmers, we can provide equal opportunities for learning and growth, in line with the goal of reducing inequality.
